The Badem Butik has been a part of Baščaršija for more than five decades. It has become a part of the Sarajevo’s tradition, especially of the Adem family which owns it throughout three generations. The grandfather started the business by selling pumpkin seeds, almonds and peanuts. The offer was then extended to sugar candies as well as rahatlokums... It has been established a certain practice of the visitors to Sarajevo - to bring rahatlokums from Sarajevo - per request of the senior members of their families.

Traditionally, the rahatlokums are made by adding roses and lemon, although you may find in Badem and elsewhere, tens of new varieties.  Besides those with sesame, hazelnuts, pistachio nuts, sugar powder and walnuts, the latest variety of rahatlokum is the lokum with walnuts between the oblates (thin wafer). The secret of a delicious rahatlokum is very simple – plenty of walnuts and it must be tasty.
